What Are QBO Units?
QBO Units are a standardized way to represent compute capacity within QBO. They abstract CPU, GPU, RAM, disk, and network into a single, unified unit — making it easier to plan and scale workloads across any hardware or environment.
Think of QBO Units like fuel for your infrastructure: you’re not paying for each mile driven, but rather filling your tank with enough fuel to complete the journey. This calculator helps answer the core question: “How many Units will I need to run my workloads?”
For reference, 1 QBO Unit is generally equivalent to $1.00 USD. If you're planning a large deployment or want custom pricing, please contact our sales team to learn more about volume discounts.
Why Use QBO Units?
- Simplified Planning: Estimate compute needs clearly across diverse workloads and hardware types.
- Hardware-Agnostic: From A100s to Jetsons, all resources are priced and compared the same way.
- Cross-Environment Compatible: Use the same unit system in cloud, on-prem, airgapped, or hybrid setups.
- Not Tied to Utilization: QBO Units represent access to compute — not metered consumption or overage fees.
- Predictable Accounting: Because each unit maps to $1.00 (before discount), teams can easily forecast and track costs.
- Budget & Quota Friendly: Pre-purchase Units, assign to teams, and track usage over time — just like prepaid fuel for your infrastructure.
Using the Calculator
- Define Your Workload
- Enter the number of CPU cores and select your GPU models.
- Specify your expected RAM, disk, and network needs.
- If a Jetson model is selected, CPU values are auto-filled and locked.
- Get Your Estimate
- View both hourly and monthly QBO Unit totals based on your input.
- Use this estimate to understand how far your compute fuel will take you — and how to size your workload accordingly.
Annual Minimum for Customer-Provided Metal
When deploying on your own hardware (On-Prem), QBO requires a minimum commitment. This ensures sufficient usage to support onboarding, support, and resource scheduling across your infrastructure.
This minimum only applies to customer-owned infrastructure. There is no minimum when running workloads in QBO’s cloud environments.
Important: QBO Units are not tied to real-time usage or metering. They represent reserved access to compute resources — similar to buying fuel before a trip. For full details, read our QBO Units Terms of Service.
